Our top 7 hot countries in February
February is a pretty cold month – spring is still a long way off and winter seems to have dragged on forever! It’s tempting to jet off to a sunnier place and leave zero degree temps and frozen windscreens behind for a little while – but where can you go? Here’s a list of some great countries where you can thaw out a little, and even catch a tan this February!
Mexico
February is a great time to go on holiday in Mexico! Avoid the rainy season and enjoy temperatures of between 27°C and 19°C. Mexican cities tend to be a little cooler than the coastal areas so if you are in places like Mexico City, San Miguel De Allende, or Guadalajara, maybe bring a jacket. Are you a beach lover? If so, check out Cancun, Riviera Maya, or Tulum for gorgeous sands and the lush turquoise waters of the Pacific. There are lots of great activities to enjoy too, such as visiting Mayan ruins or swimming with whale sharks in Cabo. If you are a foodie, you can’t miss the artsy Oaxaca, which is famous for its cuisine.
Thailand
One our top picks when it comes to hot countries in February is Thailand. If you want some really hot weather in February, Thailand is the destination for you! With temps ranging from a toasty 32°C during the day and balmy 23°C evenings, Thailand makes a great winter sun holiday. Hit up Koh Samui, Thailand’s second-largest island, for beautiful white sand beaches, lush rainforests, and luxury resorts and spas. If you like to party, check out Thailand’s famous all-night Full Moon parties on the smaller isle of Koh Pha-ngan. While you are in Thailand, take in a little history and visit The Grand Palace, the ancient ruins of Ayutthaya, or the Temple of the Reclining Buddha on the mainland. If you are feeling adventurous, take a snorkelling trip in the stunning Phi Phi archipelago.
Canary Islands
If you want to stay in Europe and still soak up some rays, try the Canary Islands for your sunny escape! The largest island, Gran Canaria, enjoys daytime highs of 21°C, although it’s a little cooler in the evening so bring an extra layer with you at night. Just hop on a four-hour flight and you can be enjoying miles of beaches, tropical national parks, and inspiring art and architecture. February is also Carnival season in the Canary Islands, with several festivals kicking off in Gran Canaria, La Palma, Tenerife and more. If you really want to see something unique, visit the Caldera de Taburiente volcanic crater, which is part of a national park and UNESCO site in La Palma.
South Africa
In South Africa you can enjoy hot, sunny weather of up to 29°C in February! South Africa has just enjoyed its hottest month in January due to its location in the southern hemisphere. It’s also a great time to go hiking on Table Mountain, take in some culture at the Cape Town Art Fair, or go wine tasting at the Franschhoek Summer Wine Festival. Just off the coast of Venezuela, Aruba is actually a constituent of the Netherlands in what is known as the Dutch Caribbean. This gem of an island is a popular place for Caribbean cruises to visit and it’s easy to see why – this desert-like island boasts temperatures between 25°C and 30°C, gorgeous beaches with powdery-soft sands, vivid aquamarine waters and stunning scenery. Take a dip in the uniquely formed Conchi natural pool on the northeast coast – the trip there takes you through the amazing Arikok National Park. Sun worshippers should check out Eagle Beach, often described as the best beach in the world – yep, you read that right! Families can have a blast at Baby Beach, with its shallow waters in a calm lagoon making it ideal for little ones. An Aruba party bus tour is a great way to take in a guided tour of the island – and check out the nightlife scene at Palm Beach! Aruba also celebrates Carnival for the entirety of February, with weeks of partying and celebration, culminating in the traditional Burning of King Momo after the Grand Carnival Parade.
